Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer who was also one of the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. Her father was a theatre enthusiast since a young stage. When he was a student at Emory University he appeared in diverse productions, both on and off the campus. While stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi, he received his induction into the airforce in 1953. Betty Lou Bredemus was also in the production. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their first child, Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. The couple divorced in 1957. the Air Force and Walter enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter was employed to work for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to work on the set of the show Bum Bum and His Buddies. The show was filmed in Decatur Georgia. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou began production on a local Saturday morning children's television program called Bum Bum and His Buddies which they financed on their own. They founded an Actors and Writers Workshop in the same year, which was in operation for a period of six years. They also had Lelisa Billingsley (also called Lisa) as well as Julia (also known as Julie) at the time.
